What is the Diagnocam?

It is a new diagnostic tool we have which uses near-infrared digital-imaging transillumination (NIDIT) to produce an image of the crown portion of teeth allowing for early detection of caries, cracks and the breakdown of fillings. The images can be captured and compared from examination to examination. We still need to use x rays however the diagnocam allows us to check inside teeth at every visit and limit radiation dose.

Below is a great example of how the this new tool helps us to detect early caries in teeth. Deb (Our Oral Therapist) was able to detect early caries by taking this image, and we asked Dr Sam Roberts to take these photos of the different stage of a filling procedure to help patient understand.
